
Women's Soccer Action Between GWU and VMI Ends in 1-1 Draw

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Junior defender Megan Tremblay scored her first goal of the season during the 78th minute of play, yet the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to score any additional goals as Friday evening's match between VMI and Gardner-Webb ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Jacksonville, Fla. native was able to find the back of the net after a corner kick by freshman midfielder Jordan Hodge was headed to her by junior forward Megan Reimer. Both were credited with assists on the goal.
VMI (2-12-1, 1-3-1 BSC) was able to get on the scoreboard first, when sophomore midfielder Christelle Ndongo was able to put a shot past GWU junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne from right at the six-yard box following a crossing pass from junior midfielder Amanda Berrios.
Gardner-Webb (3-8-3, 0-3-1 BSC) managed to take nine shots, putting four on goal during the first half of play, yet were unable to put the ball past VMI senior goalkeeper Heidi Beemer.
GWU dominated the second half of play, taking 16 shots and putting an additional four on goal. VMI sophomore forward Kacey Hall was given a red card due to physical play during the 66th minute of play, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a one-player advantage for the remainder of the match, creating an advantage on the field that led to the game-tying goal.
During the two overtime periods, both teams attempted to produce the golden goal to win the match, with VMI putting one shot on goal and GWU putting three on goal, yet both keepers prevented any scoring, letting the match end at a 1-1 tie.
Gardner-Webb had several attempts to score throughout the entire match, yet were hampered by several offsides calls, racking up 13 calls during the 110 minutes of play.
At the conclusion of the match, GWU led virtually every statistical category, with shots being at a 33-6 advantage, and shots on goal standing at 11-2, yet Beemer played an great game in goal for the Keydets, earning 10 saves.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action this Sunday afternoon as they host Radford. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Field.
