BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Gardner-Webb scored two first half goals Sunday afternoon to propel them to a 2-1 victory over the Radford Highlanders in Big South Conference women's soccer action at Greene-Harbison Field.
Radford (9-6-1, 3-2-1 BSC) scored the first goal of the match during the fourth minute of play when sophomore forward Mary Wiley was able to put a shot past GWU junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne. Freshman defender Tyler Drake was credited with the assist.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (4-8-3, 1-3-1 BSC) answered back two minutes later when freshman forward Meagan Reynolds rocketed a shot from the right side of the 18-yard box past Radford freshman goalkeeper Che' Brown. The goal was the third of the season for the Kings Mountain, N.C. native, and junior defender Megan Tremblay was awarded the assist.
GWU was able to find the back of the net once more just before the half, as freshman defender Jessica Casper put a shot out of Brown's reach following a corner kick by junior forward Stephanie Benshoof to set the score at 2-1 at the half. It was the first career goal for the Perkasie, Pa. native.
