WEEK 8: MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

SCHEDULE
The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team will have two matches this week,
as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on Liberty in Lynchburg, Va. on
Tuesday night, October 19th, at 7 p.m. before returning home to
host the Spartans of UNC Greensboro on Friday night, October 22nd,
at 7 p.m.
MATCH NOTES VERSUS LIBERTY
GWU will be looking to jump over the .500 mark in conference play
this Tuesday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on the
Liberty Flames in Lynchburg, Va. Liberty sits just ahead of GWU in
the conference standings with a 3-2 record, as both teams will be
looking for a win to stay in the upper half of the Big South
standings.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VS LU
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 2-8-1 all time versus the Liberty Flames,
however, GWU is coming off a 2-1 win over the Flames in conference
play last season at home.
MATCH NOTES VERSUS UNC GREENSBORO
Gardner-Webb will step out of conference play for the final time
when the Runnin' Bulldogs host UNC Greensboro Friday night. UNC
Greensboro enters this week with a 5-5-3 overall record and like
GWU will be coming off a conference match on Tuesday night. The
Spartans, like GWU, have had their road woes and are 1-2-1 on the
road this season. UNCG is also 0-1-1 against common foes, having
lost to High Point and tied Davidson, both of which defeated GWU
this season.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VS THE SPARTANS
GWU is 0-1 versus UNC Greensboro with the first ever meeting
between these two teams' coming last season in Greensboro, N.C.
which was a 3-1 win for the Spartans.
EVEN THUS FAR IN THE BIG SOUTH
The Runnin' Bulldogs 2-1 loss to Coastal Carolina last week put
them at 2-2 in conference play thus far this season. GWU is
sitting in the middle of the pack in the regular season standings
with four conference games remanining thus far this season.
HOME SWEET HOME DOWN THE STRETCH
Gardner-Webb will play three of its final five regular season
matches at home over the next month, a good sign seeing as three of
GWU's four wins have come at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling
Springs, N.C.
RIDING WROBEL AND ROMEO
The Runnin' Bulldogs have rode the right legs of Nicolas Wrobel and
Romeo Kabanda this season, as the freshman/senior duo has combined
for all four game winning goals for Coach Setzer's squad this
season. In fact, not only has Wrobel and Kabanda totaled nine
goals and six assists thus far this season for GWU, at least one of
them has scored in each Gardner-Webb win on the year.
HIT OR MISS OFFENSE
The GWU offense has been hit or miss thus far this season, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs are 3-0 win scoring two or more goals in a
contest. Gardner-Webb has been shutout only three times this
season, however, all three matches have come over the last seven
matches.
ROAD WOES
The Runnin' Bulldogs have struggled on the road thus far this
season, as GWU 1-4 in true road contests this season. GWU fell at
Belmont 2-1 on September 12th, dropped a 3-1 match at Boone, N.C.
against Appalachian State on September 21st and then fell at High
Point 4-0 on Saturday, September 25th. However, the Runnin'
Bulldogs defeated UNCA 3-0 in Asheville, N.C. on September 29th,
only to fall at Clemson 5-0 on October 5th.
NO OVERTIME PLEASE
The Runnin' Bulldogs have played two overtime matches thus far this
season, falling in both matches 1-0. In fact, GWU's opponents each
scored in the opening two minutes of the extra frame to defeat the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of nine regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the

LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will return to the road next week to take on the
Winthrop Eagles on Wednesday, October 27th, at 7 p.m. in Rock Hill,
S.C.
