
Gardner-Webb Defeats Blue Hose, 2-1, Friday Night in Women's Soccer Action

CLINTON, S.C. - Freshman defender Jessica Casper scored her second goal is as many games in the 83rd minute of play to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-1 victory over Presbyterian College Friday evening in Big South Conference women's soccer action.
The Perkasie, Pa. native unleashed a shot from 45 yards away from the goal, yet Blue Hose keeper Jordan Broadway was unable to prevent the ball from finding the back of the net, giving GWU the game-winning goal.
PC (5-10-1, 2-4-1 BSC) took an early lead when Rebecca Miller put a shot past GWU keeper Chelsea Hearne following a Tori Lopex free kick during the 27th minute of play.
Less than a minute later, Gardner-Webb (5-8-3, 2-3-1 BSC) tied the match at 1-1 when Stephanie Benshoof was able to score from inside the six-yard box following a shot by Megan Reimer that bounced off of the cross bar. The goal was the first of the season for the junior forward from Huntersville, N.C.
Action between the two teams was even throughout the match, with the Runnin' Bulldogs narrowly leading the shot margin at 21-9. The Blue Hose tried to produce offense following Casper's goal late in the second half, but were unable to put anything past Hearne, who finished the night with five saves, to give GWU the win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs hit the road Sunday afternoon for the final road match of the 2010 regular season as they face Big South foe UNC Asheville. The match is set to begin at 2:00 PM in Asheville, N.C.
