
Runnin' Bulldogs Earn Third Consecutive Victory With 3-0 Win Over UNC Asheville Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Gardner-Webb took an early lead Sunday afternoon against UNC Asheville when junior defender Megan Tremblay scored during the third minute of play, and the Runnin' Bulldogs never looked back, taking a 3-0 victory. The win was the third consecutive victory for GWU in Big South Conference play.
Tremblay was able to find the back of the net after just 2:11 of action, putting a breakaway shot right past UNCA goalkeeper Kristen Lawson. The goal was the second of the season for the Jacksonville, Fla. native, and Meagan Reynolds was credited with the assist.
The Runnin' Bulldogs tacked on two more goals during the second half, freshman forward Ele Margelos scored the first two goals on her collegiate career. She first found the back of the net during the 57th minute of play following a GWU corner kick. A minute later, the North Potomac, Md. native scored again after getting a breakaway down the left side, putting a shot out of Lawson's reach.
The Runnin' Bulldogs led virtually every statistical category, outshooting UNCA 15-7, with shots on goal standing at 12-3.
Gardner-Webb improved to 6-8-3 overall and 3-3-1 in Big South Conference play, while UNC Asheville fell to 1-14-0 overall and 0-7-0 in league play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action Wednesday evening as they host Big South foe Coastal Carolina. The match is set to begin at 7:00 PM at Greene-Harbison Field.
