SCHEDULE
Gardner-Webb will play its final road contests of the regular
season on Wednesday night, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to
Rock Hill, S.C. to take on the Winthrop Eagles at 7 p.m. in Big
South Conference play.
MATCH NOTES
GWU will be looking for its second straight Big South conference
win having defeated Liberty last week 2-0. In fact, GWU will be
attempting to pick up its third straight conference road win
spanning back to its 3-0 win over UNCA on September 29th.
Winthrop, who is 2-4 in the conference, is coming off a 2-1 loss to
Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C. on Saturday afternoon. Winthrop
has lost three straight matches since defeating VMI at home 6-3 on
October 12th.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-10-2 all-time versus the Winthrop Eagles
on the pitch in men's soccer action. The last two meetings, which
both took place last season, ended in ties. However, the second
tie came in the first round of the 2009 Big South Championship
Tournament, where Winthrop went on to advance by defeating GWU 4-2
in the penalty kick shootout, ending Gardner-Webb's season.
FINAL ROAD MATCH OF THE SEASON
The Runnin' Bulldogs final road match of the regular season will be
this week, as GWU will look to improve to 3-4 in true road contests
this season. In conference play, GWU is 2-1 on the road and would
love to finish at 3-1 heading into its final two home matches of
the season.
GWU vs. WINTHROP: THE ANNUAL SHOWDOWN
This week, the Runnin' Bulldogs will take on the Winthrop Eagles in
Rock Hill, S.C. on Wednesday, October 27th at 7 p.m. These two
teams are no strangers at all to one another having faced off 13
times since their first meeting in 1990. Last season, Winthrop
upended GWU to end their season on a pk shootout in the first round
of the 2009 Big South Championship Tournament.
TRYING TO STAY IN THE TOP HALF OF THE BIG SOUTH
STANDINGS
With GWU's 2-0 win over Liberty last week, the Runnin' Bulldogs
moved to 3-2 in the Big South and into fourth-place overall ahead
of the Flames who are 3-3. Gardner-Webb will look to remain in the
top half of the regular season standings for the remainder of the
season, in order to get a favorable draw in the upcoming 2010 Big
South Men's Soccer Championship Tournament on November 11-14.
HOME SWEET HOME DOWN THE STRETCH
Gardner-Webb will play two of its final three regular season
matches at home over the next two weeks, a good sign seeing as
three of GWU's five wins have come at Greene-Harbison Field in
Boiling Springs, N.C.
RIDING WROBEL AND ROMEO
The Runnin' Bulldogs have rode the right legs of Nicolas Wrobel and
Romeo Kabanda this season, as the freshman/senior duo has combined
for all four of the five game winning goals for Coach Setzer's
squad this season. In fact, not only has Wrobel and Kabanda
totaled ten goals and six assists thus far this season for GWU, at
least one of them has scored in each Gardner-Webb win on the
year.
HIT OR MISS OFFENSE
The GWU offense has been hit or miss thus far this season, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs are 4-0 win scoring two or more goals in a
contest. Gardner-Webb has been shutout only three times this
season.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of nine regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the

LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will wrap up its regular season slate with
back-to-back home matches. The Runnin' Bulldogs will host
Presbyterian College on Tuesday, November 2nd, at 7 p.m. and
Radford on Friday, November 5th, at 7 p.m. in the regular season
finale.
