
VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY NOTES: WEEK 10

SCHEDULE
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take on Presbyterian College in Clinton,
S.C. on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and will then return home to kick
off a four match home stand this Saturday afternoon against the
Lady Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina at 2 p.m.
MATCH NOTES VS PC
GWU(5-19, 0-9 Big South) vs. PC (10-14, 3-6 Big South)
Both the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Blue Hose are coming off a 3-0 losses last Saturday afternoon. Gardner-Webb is still looking for its first conference win, while PC will look to get back on the right track with a home conference victory.
PREVIOUS MEETING THIS YEAR
Presbyterian College defeated GWU 3-0 back on September 28th in
Paul Porter Arena.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VS PC
Presbyterian College holds a slight 4-3 advantage over GWU in the
overall series since 2001, when GWU went NCAA DI.
MATCH NOTES VS COASTAL CAROLINA
GWU(5-19, 0-9 BSC vs. Coastal Carolina (12-12, 5-4 BSC)
Both the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Lady Chanticleers play earlier on
in the week, however, this will be a Big South Conference showdown
that is sure to be full of excitement as both teams are battling
for position for the upcoming 2010 Big South Tournament.

Coastal Carolina defeated GWU 3-0 down in Conway, S.C. on October 1
in Kimbel Arena.

Coastal Carolina is 1-5 all-time versus GWU in the overall series
since 2001, when GWU went NCAA DI.
DOWN THE STRETCH
GWU is now coming up on the final stretch of the season, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs have only seven matches remaining in the regular
season. All seven matches are Big South Conference contests, with
four of those coming at home in Paul Porter Arena. Gardner-Webb
will look to pick up some conference wins down the stretch to make
it into the 2010 Big South Volleyball Championship Tournament on
November 18-20.
SEARCHING FOR THAT FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
The Runnin' Bulldogs are looking for that first Big South
Conference win, as GWU is 0-9 thus far this season. Gardner-Webb
has pushed teams to the brink in conference play, yet has been
unable to come away with a win.
FRESHMAN TYLER COCKRELL EARNS BIG SOUTH WEEKLY
HONOR
Gardner-Webb freshman middle blocker Tyler Cockrell was tabbed the
Freshman of the Week for matches played October 11-17, the League
announced today. Cockrell, a middle blocker from Tulsa, Okla.,
posted 33 kills, 18 blocks and hit .306 for Gardner-Webb last
week. She began her week with five kills and two blocks in the 3-0
win over North Carolina A&T on October 12th. She got hot three
days later as she posted 18 kills, a .382 attack percentage and 13
blocks, including six solo blocks, in GWU's narrow 3-2 loss to
Winthrop. Cockrell kept the momentum going the next day as she
came away with 10 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and two blocks
in a loss against Charleston Southern. The award marks her first
Freshman of the Week honor this season and of her young career.
ROAD WOES IN 2010
The Runnin' Bulldogs have struggled away from Paul Porter Arena
this season, as GWU is 2-8 in true road contests and 0-6 in neutral
site contests on the year. GWU's two road wins have both come
against North Carolina schools in non-conference play. The first
win came in the season opener at N.C. Central back on August 27th
and the second came at N.C. A&T on October 12th.
SLOW START TO CONFERENCE SEASON
GWU got off to a slow start to its Big South Conference season, as
the Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 0-6 in conference play. Gardner-Webb
fell 3-0 to UNCA in Asheville, N.C. on Tuesday, September 21st, as
the Runnin' Bulldogs shot themselves in the foot, committing 27
attack errors over the three set match. On Friday, September 24th,
GWU fell at home to Liberty 3-0, as the Runnin' Bulldogs fell
behind early in every set and couldn't battle back to erase the
early deficits. Gardner-Webb then dropped a home match to PC 3-0 on
Tuesday, September 29th, and a road match at Coastal Carolian 3-0
on Saturday, October 1. The Runnin' Bulldogs also fell at High
Point 3-0 and at Radford 3-2 on October 8th and 9th.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of 11 regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the
Big South Network can be found at www.GWUsports.com or at
www.bigsouthsports.com.
LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will remain at home for its next three matches, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs will host Radford on Friday, November 5th, at 7
p.m., High Point on Saturday, November 6th, at 2 p.m. and UNC
Asheville on Tuesday, November 9th, at 7 p.m.
