October 30, 2010 | Cross Country
Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb seniors Paul Steinke and Laura Scott were both named to the 2010 Big South Conference Cross Country All-Academic Teams, announced the League office this Saturday.
This is not the first time that either one of these two Runnin' Bulldogs have received this honor, as Steinke was named to the 2010 Big South Track & Field All-Academic Team last spring, while Scott earned a spot on the 2009 Big South Cross Country All-Academic Team a year ago.
Steinke has posted a 3.500 grade point average in working toward a degree in Biology in his time at GWU. This season, the senior has competed in four of GWU's six meets thus far this season. Steinke has turned in times of 20:16.30 at the WCU Open (5K) and 28:05.15 at the UNC Invitational (5k). He also turned in a time of 32:56.40 at the Blue Ridge Open (5k). Steinke also competed at the 2010 Big South Cross Country Championships, crossing the finish line with a time of 33:18.37.
Scott has posted a 3.4038 cumulative grade point average while also working toward her degree in Biology. Scott has led by example this season on the course, as she has been the top Runnin' Bulldog in three of five GWU meets this season, finishing second among GWU runners in the other two events. Scott turned in a time of 18:49.10 to take 55th at the Charlotte Invitational (5000m) and crossed the line with a time of 19:35.60 at the Blue Ridge Open (5k). The senior set a new personal best time of 12:05.70 with a sixth-place finish at the WCU (2 mile) open and placed 17th at the Big South Preview Meet (5k) with a time of 20:18.03. Scott also led the Runnin' Bulldogs women's team in the 5k event at the 2010 Big South Championships, crossing the finish line in 32nd-place with a season best time of 19:34.28.
