WEEK 6: MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

SCHEDULE
The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs will look to continue its winning
ways this week, as GWU will take on Clemson on Tuesday night,
October 5th, at 7 p.m. in Clemson, S.C. and will host VMI at 7 p.m.
on Saturday night, October 9th, at Greene-Harbison Field.
MATCH NOTES VS CLEMSON
GWU and Clemson are both coming off wins last week with the
Runnin' Bulldogs defeated UNCA 3-0, while the Tigers beat St. Louis
1-0. Gardner-Webb is 3-6 on the season and are 1-3 in true road
contests on the year. Clemson is 2-5-1 on the season and are only
1-2 at home. Neither team has won back-to-back matches so far this
season, as both teams will look to pick up two wins in a row on
Tuesday night.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-7-0 versus the Clemson Tigers, however,
GWU's lone win over the ACC powerhouse came last season.
Gardner-Webb defeated Clemson 1-0 in the two teams' season opener
last year.
MATCH NOTES VS VMI
Gardner-Webb will look to improve to 2-1 in conference play this
weekend, as the Runnin' Bulldogs host the VMI Keydets. VMI enters
the week at 0-6-1 on the season and will have two conference games
this week versus Coastal Carolina and GWU. The Runnin' Bulldogs
have one common foe thus far this season with the Keydets, as GWU
defeated Mercer 3-0, while Mercer defeated VMI 2-1 last week.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VS THE KEYDETS
GWU is an even 2-2-0 against the Keydets of VMI. In the two teams'
last meeting a year ago, VMI shutout the Runnin' Bulldogs for a 2-0
win up in Lexington, Virginia.
BACK HOME FOR A FEW
Gardner-Webb's Saturday night match with VMI will be the Runnin'
Bulldogs first of two straight home matches and one of five
remaining contests at Greene-Harbison Stadium this season. GWU is
2-2 at home thus far, but have not played a Big South Conference
opponent at home so far this season. GWU was 2-1-1 in conference
play at home last year.
FAMILIAR NON-CONFERENCE FOE IN THE TIGERS
Gardner-Webb will take on a familiar non-conference foe in the
Clemson Tigers on Tuesday, October 5th. GWU is 1-7-0 all-time
versus the Tigers, having faced them on a regular basis in each of
the last several seasons. The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to make
it two wins in a row over the Tigers, having defeated Clemson last
year 1-0 on a John Sargent goal in the two teams' season
openers.
LOST & FOUND: OFFENSE
The GWU offense was last week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs defeated
UNCA 3-0. In the win, GWU fired off 19 shots for the match,
putting 11 of the on frame. In the Runnin' Bulldogs previous six
games, which GWU went 1-5 in, GWU had totaled four goals.
ROAD WOES
The Runnin' Bulldogs have struggled on the road thus far this
season, as GWU 1-3 in true road contests this season. GWU fell at
Belmont 2-1 on September 12th, dropped a 3-1 match at Boone, N.C.
against Appalachian State on September 21st and then fell at High
Point 4-0 on Saturday, September 25th. However, the Runnin'
Bulldogs defeated UNCA 3-0 in Asheville, N.C. on September
29th.
NO OVERTIME PLEASE
The Runnin' Bulldogs have played two overtime matches thus far this
season, falling in both matches 1-0. In fact, GWU's opponents each
scored in the opening two minutes of the extra frame to defeat the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of nine regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the

LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will remain at home for its next bout, as the Runnin'
Bulldogs will host the Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina at
Greene-Harbison Stadium on Saturday, October 16, at 7 p.m.
