
GWU Women's Golf Takes Third at the 2010 Winthrop Intercollegiate

Rock Hill, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team picked up a third-place finish this weekend, carding a combined two-day team score of 622, +46, at the 2010 Winthrop University Intercollegiate in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Runnin' Bulldogs, who were in second-place with a 305 heading into the final round of play on Sunday, carded a second round 317 to finish with a 622, seven strokes behind the second-place Wofford College Terriers (615) and 12 strokes behind the champions in Radford University (610).
GWU transfer Sammy Vass finished in a four-way tie for tenth-place overall, as the sophomore carded rounds of 73 and 82 to finish with a combined score of 155, +11 for the event.
Sophomores Lauren Smith and Chelcia Petersen both tied for 14th-place overall with each turning in a two-day combined score of 156, +12, while fellow classmate Meghan Allum shot a two-round score of 158, +14, to finish in a tie at 20th-place.
In her first collegiate tournament, freshman Pilar Morgan carded a two-day score of 162, +18, to finish in a tie at 39th-place overall.
Yet, the best overall two-day performance for GWU came from Hannah Hellyer, as the sophomore finished in fifth-place overall with a combined score of 152, +8, playing as an individual in the tournament.
Junior Courtney Finocchiaro also played as an individual in the event, shooting a combined score of 168, +24, the finish in a tie at 41st-place.
The GWU lady golfers will return to the links for competition play on October 11-12, wrapping up its 2010 fall season in Greenville, N.C. at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina.
