WEEK 10: MEN'S SOCCER NOTES

SCHEDULE
Gardner-Webb will wrap up its 2010 regular season slate and
conference slate this week with two Big South home matches. The
Runnin' Bulldogs will host Presbyterian College at 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, November 2, and will welcome the Radford Highlanders to
Boiling Springs, N.C. for the two teams' final regular season match
at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 5, at Greene-Harbison Field.
MATCH NOTES VS PC
GWU will look to bounce back from a tough 2-1 loss to Winthrop last
week, with a home conference showdown with PC on Tuesday night.
Both GWU and PC have lost multiple contests heading into this match
and will be looking to get a "W" heading into its final regular
season match this weekend. PC is 0-5 in conference play this year
and would love to play the spoiler to the Runnin' Bulldogs
conference season. Gardner-Webb is looking for a win in order to
remain in the top half of the Big South regular season standings
heading into the 2010 Big South Championship Tournament in two
weeks.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY WITH THE BLUE HOSE
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 6-11-1 all-time versus PC dating back to
the two teams' first meeting back in 1987. However, Gardner-Webb
is on a two-match winning streak versus the Blue Hose, including a
1-0 conference road win last season in Clinton, S.C.
MATCH NOTES VS RADFORD
Gardner-Webb and Radford will both wrap up its regular season slate
on Friday night in Boiling Springs, N.C. with both looking to stay
in the top half of the Big South standings. Radford, who has three
matches this week, will enter Saturday's match with a 4-2-1
conference record, sitting in third-place overall just ahead of GWU
at 3-3. GWU is 3-4 at home thus far this season heading into play
this week, while the Highlanders are 2-4-1 in true road contests on
the year.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VERSUS THE HIGHLANDERS
GWU is 4-2-0 versus Radford and has won the last two meetings over
the Highlanders, including a 2-0 shutout win in Radford, Va. last
season.
TWO HUGE MATCHES THIS WEEK FOR THE DOGS
The Runnin' Bulldogs two matches this week are huge in terms of
GWU's near future heading into the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer
Championship Tournament on November 11-14. With two wins, GWU can
finish 5-3 in the conference placing them as high as second, but no
lower than fifth in the standings depending on play throughout the
conference. However, two losses can drop GWU 3-5 in the Big South,
putting them no higher than fifth in the standings, where Coach
Setzer and his squad do not want to be.
TRYING TO STAY IN THE TOP HALF OF THE BIG SOUTH
STANDINGS
With GWU's 1-2 loss to Winthrop at Rock Hill, S.C. last week, the
Runnin' Bulldogs fell to 3-3 in the conference and sit in the
middle of the pack in the Big South regular season standings. GWU
will have two chances this week to get above the .500 mark in
conference play and in the top half of the regular season standings
heading into the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer Championship
Tournament in two weeks.
HOME SWEET HOME DOWN THE STRETCH
Gardner-Webb will play its two final regular season matches at home
over the this week, a good sign seeing as three of GWU's five wins
have come at Greene-Harbison Field in Boiling Springs, N.C.
GWU vs. WINTHROP: NEVER DISAPPOINTING
The annual showdown between GWU and Winthrop is never disappointing
and this year did not let us down, as the two teams battled until
the very end, seeing a lot of shots, fouls and controversal calls
from start to finish. GWU got on the board first with an own goal
from Winthrop, only to have Winthrop tie the score up with what
appeared to be no time left on the clock in the first half. In the
second half, Winthrop scored to take a 2-1 lead, despite GWU
outshooting the Eagles for the match 23-17. A no call in the 81st
minute in which a GWU player was pulled down in the penalty box,
further ignited a rivarly that is one of the Big South's strongest
on the pitch in men's soccer action.
RIDING WROBEL AND ROMEO
The Runnin' Bulldogs have rode the right legs of Nicolas Wrobel and
Romeo Kabanda this season, as the freshman/senior duo has combined
for all four of the five game winning goals for Coach Setzer's
squad this season. In fact, not only has Wrobel and Kabanda
totaled ten goals and six assists thus far this season for GWU, at
least one of them has scored in each Gardner-Webb win on the
year.
HIT OR MISS OFFENSE
The GWU offense has been hit or miss thus far this season, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs are 4-0 win scoring two or more goals in a
contest. Gardner-Webb has been shutout only three times this
season.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of nine regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the

LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will set its sights on the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer
Championship Tournament in High Point, N.C. on November 11-14. All
