VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY NOTES: WEEK 11

SCHEDULE
The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs will have two home matches this
week, as GWU will host Radford on Friday night, November 5th, at 7
p.m. and then welcomes High Point to town on Saturday, November
6th, for a 2 p.m. afternoon match.
MATCH NOTES VS RADFORD
Radford (8-18, 2-9 BSC) vs. Gardner-Webb (5-21, 0-11 BSC)
Both the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Radford Highlanders are playing
for its trip to the 2010 Big South Conference Championship
Tournament, as both teams are making a push for the last spot in
the field.
PREVIOUS MEETING WITH THE HIGHLANDERS THIS SEASON
Radford defeated GWU 3-1 back on October 9 in Radford, Va.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY WITH RADFORD
With the win in the two teams' previous meeting this year, the
Highlanders hold a slight 3-2 match lead over the Runnn' Bulldogs
in the overall series.
MATCH NOTES VS HIGH POINT
High Point (14-12, 9-3 BSC) vs. Gardner-Webb (5-21, 0-11 BSC)
The Runnin' Bulldogs again will be looking to play its way into the
postseason conference championship tournament, a totally different
scenario than the High Point Panthers who are battling for the
regular season championship title and a number one seed in the 2010
Big South Conference Championship Tournament in two weeks.
PREVIOUS MEETING THIS YEAR AT HIGH POINT
High Point swept the Runnin' Bulldogs 3-0 in High Point, N.C. back
on October 8th.
OVERALL SERIES RECORD AGAINST THE PANTHERS
GWU is 2-10 against the High Point Panthers in the overall series
since 2001, when GWU went NCAA DI.
LOOKING TO END THE SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
GWU is looking to end the regular season on a high notes, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs have five matches remaining, all of which are
conference bouts, giving Gardner-Webb a chance to still make the
2010 Big South Conference Championship Tournament field.
Gardner-Webb has three of its five remaining matches at home, where
three of GWU's five wins have come thus far this season.
COCKRELL ON THE BRINK OF MAKING HISTORY
Gardner-Webb freshman Tyler Cockrell is on the verge of making
history, as the middle blocker is only six blocks away from setting
a new GWU volleyball record for the most total blocks in a single
season. Cockrell, who has tallied 101 total blocks this season, is
trying to chase down Theresa Harrison who holds the record with 106
total blocks back in the 2000 season. Cockrell already surpassed
Harrison in the most block assists in one season with 66 thus far
this year.
SEARCHING FOR THAT FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
The Runnin' Bulldogs are looking for that first Big South
Conference win, as GWU is 0-11 thus far this season. Gardner-Webb
has pushed teams to the brink in conference play, yet has been
unable to come away with a win.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of 11 regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the
Big South Network can be found at www.GWUsports.com or at
www.bigsouthsports.com.
LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will wrap up its 2010 regular season slate with three
matches next week. The Runnin' Bulldogs will play its final home
match of the year on Tuesday, November 9, as the UNCA Bulldogs come
to down for a 7 p.m. match. Then GWU will hit the road for its
final two matches, taking on Charleston Southern in Charleston,
S.C. on Friday, November 12, at 7 p.m. and then facing off with the
Lady Eagles of Winthrop on Saturday, November 13, at 1 p.m. in Rock
Hill, S.C.
