Gardner-Webb Men Set To Open Season Friday At Charlotte
November 11, 2010 | Men's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS - A new era of men's basketball at
tradition-rich Gardner-Webb begins Friday afternoon in nearby
Charlotte, as Chris Holtmann takes his Runnin' Bulldogs to Halton
Arena to do battle with the Charlotte 49ers at 4 pm.
Holtmann, who celebrated his 39th birthday on Thursday, will put a
young lineup on the floor against a Charlotte team that won 19
games last season and welcomes back its top-three scorers for
first-year skipper Alan Major.
The 49ers lead the series 2-0, with a convincing win last December
over the 'Dogs among those two victories.
GWU could have a pair of freshmen in its starting lineup Friday,
with point guard Luke Davis (Raleigh, N.C. / Ravenscroft School)
and center Mike Byron (San Antonio, Texas / Churchill HS) providing
the GWU coaching staff with an early glimpse of the future during
preseason drills and practice.
Friday's game will air live on WGWG-FM (88.3), with Jared Pankhurst
providing the call from Halton Arena.
