GWU Wrestling Falls To Chattanooga in Home Opener
November 20, 2010 | Wrestling
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb picked up three straight wins at 133, 141 and 149 to take a 9-5 lead after four bouts, however, Chattanooga won the final six matches to defeat the Runnin' Bulldogs 29-9.
After Chattanooga picked up a 16-0 technical fall win at 125 to open the match, Gardner-Webb freshman Alex Hamm held on for a 2-1 victory at 133 over Cody Hood of UTC to put GWU on the board and put the score at 5-3 in favor of the Mocs.
Redshirt-sophomore Richie Spicel followed up Hamm's decision with a 10-5 victory over Trevor Herron at 141 to put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front at 6-5.
Fellow redshirt-sophomore Ryan Medved pushed GWU out in front at 9-5 with an 8-2 decision over last year's Southern Conference Champion Dean Pavlou at 149.
However, the Mocs took the match over there, finishing the match out with six wins including a forfeit at 285 and a 5-4 win over GWU's Erin O'Dell at 165 due to riding time.
The six wins pushed the Mocs out in front to win the match 29-9.
Gardner-Webb (2-5) will have two weeks off to rest and regroup, as the Runnin' Bulldog grapplers will next compete at the 2010 Davidson Open on Saturday, December 4, in Davidson, N.C.
