'Dogs Fall At Michigan, 80-58, Sunday Afternoon In Legends Classic

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Michigan started a 17-3 run midway through the first half to take control Saturday in an 80-58 win over Gardner-Webb at Crisler Arena.
Gardner-Webb (3-2) played even with the Wolverines (3-0) in the second half, but could not get the margin under 20 points in the final stanza. Brian McNair scored all 14 of his points after halftime to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs, who shot 39.3 percent for the game (22-of-56) and were out-rebounded by the taller hosts 45-23.
Michigan got 21 points and 10 assists from Darius Morris and 20 points from Jordan Morgan to win its third in a row to start the season. The Wolverines shot 52.4 percent from the floor, corralled 15 offensive rebounds and got good support from Tim Hardaway, Jr. (15 points) and Stu Douglass (10) in the scoring column.
Morris, Morgan and Hardaway scored 37 of Michigan's 41 first-half points.
Gardner-Webb's leading scorer, Jon Moore, had just three points by intermission, and finished with a season-low nine points on 3-of-10 shooting. Stefon Johnson scored all seven of his points in the first half and David Brown finished with seven points for the 'Dogs.
The Runnin' Bulldogs fell behind during Michigan's run by coughing up 12 of the team's 13 turnovers in the first half and knocking down just eight field goals (8-of-26, 30.8 percent). Michigan built the margin behind the trio of Morris, Morgan and Hardaway - as the three combined to make 15-of-20 shots and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in the period.
Gardner-Webb will now turn its attention to William & Mary, as the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Williamsburg for a 7 pm game on Friday, November 26 as part of the Legends Classic Tournament. The three-day event in Williamsburg also includes games against Mercer and Western Carolina.
