
Runnin' Bulldogs Fall In Overtime to #5 High Point 1-0 in Big South Women's Soccer Championship Match

RADFORD, Va. - A golden goal from High Point's Jillie Johnston 4:34 into the overtime frame led No. 5 High Point over No. 7 Gardner-Webb, 1-0, in the title game of the 2010 Big South Women's Soccer Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting Sunday at Patrick D. Cupp Stadium in Radford, Va.
Johnston's bicycle kick from the six-yard box came off a free kick in the 95th minute. Sara Rager took the kick and teammate Becca Hemby touched it over to Johnston who scored her second goal of the season and gave the Panthers their second consecutive League crown.
Chelsea Hearne had nine saves on the day for Gardner-Webb, yet High Point held the advantage in shots, 17-4, and in corner kicks, 7-2.
Chelsea Hearne, Megan Tremblay, and Megan Reimer from Gardner-Webb were named to the 2010 Big South All-Tournament Team. Joining them was Janay Whittaker, who was named Tournament MVP for her play in High Point's three games. Also on the team were Andrea Ritchie, Kelly Joline, Jillie Johnston of High Point. Courtney Durbin and Katie Perkinson from Winthrop; Madison Short and Maggie Woody from Liberty earned All-Tournament honors. Emily Danchak (Charleston Southern), Amanda Berrios (VMI), Hannah Brown (Coastal Carolina) and Latrice Lee (Radford) round out the All-Tournament squad.
High Point improves to 11-10-1 on the year, while Gardner-Webb drops to 7-10-5. It was the second meeting between High Point and Gardner-Webb in the Conference Tournament.
