SCHEDULE
The Runnin' Bulldogs will wrap up its 2010 regular season slate
this week with three Big South Conference matches. Gardner-Webb's
final home match of the season will come on Tuesday night, November
9th, as the Runnin' Bulldogs host UNC Asheville at 7 p.m. in Paul
Porter Arena. GWU then hits the road for its final two matches of
the regular season, taking on Charleston Southern at 7 p.m. on
Friday, November 12th, and then at Winthrop on Saturday, November
13th, at 1 p.m.
MATCH NOTES VERSUS UNC ASHEVILLE
UNCA (18-10, 10-4 BSC) vs. Gardner-Webb (5-23, 0-13 BSC)
PREVIOUS MEETING THIS YEAR AT ASHEVILLE
UNCA defeated GWU 3-0 back on September 20th in Asheville, N.C.
OVERALL SERIES RECORD VERSUS THE UNCA BULLDOGS
With the win in the two teams' previous meeting this year, the UNCA
Bulldogs hold a 7-2 match lead over the Runnn' Bulldogs in the
overall D1 series.
MATCH NOTES VERSUS CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
GWU (5-23, 0-13 BSC) vs. CSU (11-18, 5-9 BSC)
PREVIOUS MEETING THIS YEAR WITH THE BUCS
GWU dropped a 3-0 home decision to the Bucs on October 16th.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY WITH THE CSU BUCCANEERS
GWU is 3-6 against Charleston Southern in the overall series since
2001, when GWU went NCAA DI.
MATCH NOTES VERSUS WINTHROP
GWU (5-23, 0-13 BSC) vs. Winthrop (11-15, 8-6 BSC)
PREVIOUS MEETING THIS YEAR VERSUS THE EAGLES AT PAUL PORTER
ARENA
GWU pushed the Eagles to five sets before falling 3-2 at home on
October 15th in Paul Porter Arena.
OVERALL SERIES RECORD AGAINST WINTHROP
GWU is 1-13 all-time versus the Winthrop Eagles in volleyball
action.
LOOKING TO END THE SEASON ON A HIGH NOTE
GWU is looking to end the regular season on a high notes, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs have will wrap up its regular season slate this
week before preparing for the 2010 Big South Volleyball
Championships on November 18-20 in Rock Hill, S.C. Gardner-Webb
would love to score a win in the final week of play and build some
momentum and confidence up heading into the conference championship
tournament in which anything can happen.
COCKRELL ON THE BRINK OF MAKING HISTORY
Gardner-Webb freshman Tyler Cockrell is on the verge of making
history, as the middle blocker is only three total blocks away from
setting a new GWU volleyball record for the most total blocks in a
single season. Cockrell, who has tallied 104 total blocks this
season, is trying to chase down Theresa Harrison who holds the
record with 106 total blocks back in the 2000 season. Cockrell
already surpassed Harrison in the most block assists in one season
with 68 thus far this year.
SEARCHING FOR THAT FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
The Runnin' Bulldogs are looking for that first Big South
Conference win, as GWU is 0-13 thus far this season. Gardner-Webb
has pushed teams to the brink in conference play, yet has been
unable to come away with a win.
MAKING HISTORY
GWU Head Coach Chris Phillips picked up her 400th career win in the
Runnin' Bulldogs 3-2 win over Wofford on Friday night, September
10th. Phillips entered the season with 398 wins and now continues
to add to that total, sitting now at 403.
SET-TLING IN
GWU junior Evan Moffitt will line up as the setter for the Runnin'
Bulldogs this season, the position she was recruited to play coming
into Gardner-Webb back in 2008. Moffitt, who played on the outside
as a freshman and in the middle last season, will replace Regina
Feagin who finished up as GWU's Division I career set assists
leader.
NEW FACES
The GWU volleyball team will have five new faces on the court in
2010, as freshmen newcomers Erin Anderson, Tyler Cockrell, Emily
Holte, Amanda Murphy and Meg Taylor will all see their first time
as Runnin' Bulldogs this season.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of 11 regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the
Big South Network can be found at www.GWUsports.com or at
www.bigsouthsports.com.
LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will look to end its season on a high-note, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs will look to make a run through the 2010 Big South
Conference Volleyball Championship tournament next week, November
18-20, in Rock Hill, S.C.
