GWU'S BIG SOUTH MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT HISTORY
History is not on the side of the Runnin' Bulldogs men's soccer team in terms of the Big South Men's Soccer Championship, as GWU had been eliminated in the first round in each of the last two years. This season, GWU's third in the Big South Conference, the Runnin' Bulldogs will look for the third time to be a charm heading into the 2010 Big South Men's Soccer Championship this week.

GWU'S NICOLAS WROBEL TABBED BIG SOUTH MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Forward Nicolas Wrobel was selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Player of the Week for games played the final week of the regular-season, it was announced on November 9th by the League office. Wrobel, a freshman from Berlin, Germany, posted three goals and one assist to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 2-0 record in League play. The two wins secured Gardner-Webb the No. 3 seed in this week's Big South Conference Men's Soccer Championship. On Nov. 2 against Presbyterian College, Wrobel put in the game winner off a Richard Wall assist in the 14th minute as Gardner-Webb went on to the 3-0 win. He kept up his hot play three days later against Radford as he accounted for two scores and an assist. His assist came in the 53rd minute as he found Chris Davis to break a 1-1 tie. He followed with two insurance goals in the 71st and 74th minutes to secure the 4-1 win for Gardner-Webb.

TWO HUGE WINS WHEN NEEDED LAST WEEK

The Runnin' Bulldogs picked up two huge conference wins last week, defeating PC 3-0 and Radford 4-1, in order to stay in the top half of the final Big South regular season standings. GWU finished 5-3 in conference play, which placed them in a third-place tie with Liberty, however, the Runnin' Bulldogs garnered the No. 3 seed with its head-to-head 2-0 win over Liberty on October 19th in Lynchburg, Va.

HOME SWEET HOME DOWN THE STRETCH

Gardner-Webb will played its final two regular season matches both at home last week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs picked up two huge wins to finish 5-3 in conference play. Greene-Harbison Field was nice to GWU last week, as the Runnin' Bulldogs outscored its opponents 7-1 in the two wins.

GWU vs. WINTHROP: NEVER DISAPPOINTING
The annual showdown between GWU and Winthrop is never disappointing and this year did not let us down, as the two teams battled until the very end, seeing a lot of shots, fouls and controversal calls from start to finish. GWU got on the board first with an own goal from Winthrop, only to have Winthrop tie the score up with what appeared to be no time left on the clock in the first half. In the second half, Winthrop scored to take a 2-1 lead, despite GWU outshooting the Eagles for the match 23-17. A no call in the 81st minute in which a GWU player was pulled down in the penalty box, further ignited a rivarly that is one of the Big South's strongest on the pitch in men's soccer action.

RIDING WROBEL AND ROMEO

The Runnin' Bulldogs have rode the right legs of Nicolas Wrobel and Romeo Kabanda this season, as the freshman/senior duo has combined for five of the seven game winning goals for Coach Setzer's squad this season. In fact, not only has Wrobel and Kabanda totaled 13 goals and eight assists thus far this season for GWU, at least one of them has scored in each Gardner-Webb win on the year.
