
GWU Dominates Paint in 81-47 Home Win Over Converse

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb outscored Converse 44-12 in points in the paint, as the Runnin' Bulldogs ran past the Converse College Valkyries 81-47 on Thursday night in Paul Porter Arena.
After Gardner-Webb took a 7-5 lead on a lay up by Monique Hudson at the 17:18 mark of the first half, the Runnin' Bulldogs never looked back, pushing its lead out to as much as 23 in the first 20 minutes of play en route to a 41-23 halftime lead.
In the first half, Gardner-Webb shot 47.4 percent from the floor, scoring 28 points in the paint and 20 points off of turnovers on the offensive end and forced 14 Converse College turnovers and held them to only eight made field goals on the defensive end.
In the second half, the Valkyries cut the lead to 12 at 43-31 with 17:44 to go in regulation, only to have the Runnin' Bulldogs overcome a sluggish second half start to run out ahead of Converse as much as 34 points on two separate occasions in the 81-47 home win.
GWU had 26 points off turnovers, tallied 18 second chance points, 12 fast break points and 23 total bench points in the win.
Gardner-Webb was led by Dominique Hudson's 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists, while fellow senior LaTroya Pope picked up her third double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Freshman Catrina Green poured in a career-high 10 points and hauled in a career-high seven rebounds in only 16 minutes of play, while Monique Hudson added 13 points in the win.
For Converse, guard Tasia Holdorf had a team-high 15 points, while forward Morgan Sacharski had a team-high 11 rebounds and nine points in the loss.
The win is the Runnin' Bulldogs fifth straight, as GWU improves to 3-0 at home this season.
Gardner-Webb (7-3) will return to action on Wednesday, December 22nd, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will host a "Red Out" to welcome the Purdue Boilermakers to town. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. in Paul Porter Arena.
Converse (0-9) will not return to action until the new year, taking on Lees-McRae College at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, January 3rd, in Spartanburg, S.C.
