GWU Men Return Home To Host Liberty Friday In Key Big South Conference Clash
December 30, 2010 | Men's Basketball
BOILING SPRINGS - After a 10-game, 43-day stretch away from its home court in Paul Porter Arena, Gardner-Webb will host Liberty at 5:30 pm Friday in a key men's Big South Conference clash.
Gardner-Webb (6-8, 1-1 Big South) will again be without leading scorer Jon Moore (15.5 ppg), who remains sidelined with a foot injury suffered on December 11 at Arizona State. In Moore's absence, guards Laron Buggs (16 points at #20 Louisville) and Brian McNair (11 points at Arizona State) will be asked to assume more of a scoring role offensively, as will frontcourt players Stefon Johnson (9.3 ppg) and Josh Henley.
Liberty (8-6, 2-0 Big South) picked up a pair of league wins at home over Winthrop and Presbyterian in December and finds itself atop the league standings despite a young roster. Junior point guard Jesse Sanders, younger brother of former Gardner-Webb All-American Thomas Sanders, is one of the Big South's most exciting players, leading the league with more than six assists per game and boasting a pair of triple-doubles in his career.
Friday's game is part of an exciting day for basketball in Boiling Springs, and will follow the Gardner-Webb women's game against 10th-ranked North Carolina. The GWU-UNC game is set for a 3 pm tip.
Tickets for both games are available at the door. Prices are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
