
GWU Competes at Appalachian Collegiate Indoor on Saturday

Boone, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb men's and women's indoor track & field teams opened up its 2010-11 season this weekend at the Appalachian Collegiate Indoor meet hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C.
Gardner-Webb sophomore Ashlei Alexander set a personal best mark in both the weight throw and in the shot put events this weekend, while junior Ann Marie Howell posted a personal best mark in the pole vault.
Sophomore Clint McManus also set a personal best mark in the pole vault on the men's side, while senior Johnathan Rucker took third-place overall in the high jump event.
The women's team performances was highlighted by Alexander's 12.89 meters mark in the shot put, which placed her in sixth-place overall, and her throw of 14.93 meters in the weight throw where she placed seventh, both of which were personal best marks.
Senior Carrie Long took second overall in the pole vault with a height of 3.51 meters, while Howell set a personal best mark of 3.21 meters, tying with sophomore Taylor Cook, to finish in a tie for fifth-place overall.
Junior Caroline Arledge picked up a ninth-place finish in the women's high jump event, clearing the bar at 1.52 meters, while freshman Ashley Slate crossed the finish line in 13th-place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:42.59.
Gardner-Webb freshman Kristen Hurley took 15th-place in the 55 meter hurdles with her time of 9.01, while the 4x400 meter relay unit of T'Keyah Bell, Hurley, Long and Olivia Moody placed eighth overall with a time of 4:12.71.
On the men's side, McManus took third-place overall in the pole vault with a personal best mark of 4.43 meters, while Rucker finished in third in the high jump with a height of 1.98 meters and fifth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.85.
GWU freshman Terry Davis picked up a ninth-place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 1.83 meters, while senior Evan Brusich crossed the finish line in ninth-place in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.95 and in 11th-place overall in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.34.
Freshman thrower Carson Sears turned in a toss of 13.75 meters in the shot put to place 11th overall and then turned in a mark of 14.47 meters in the weight throw event to finish in 13th-place, two spots behind fellow GWU teammate Travis Rogers who turned in a throw of 14.78 meters to finish 11th.
Gardner-Webb freshman Johnathan Parks turned in two top-15 finishes for the day, as he finished 13th overall in the high jump with a height of 8.07 meters and 13th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.67.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of Brusich, Davis, Parks and Galen Keene crossed the finish line with a time of 3:29.94 to finish in fifth-place overall.
The Gardner-Webb track & field teams will not return to competition until the new year, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will return to Boone, N.C. to compete at the Mountaineer Open on January 15th.
