Bulldogs Down the Duquesne Dukes, 23-15, at Davidson on Thursday Night

Davidson, N.C. - Gardner-Webb picked up a 23-15 win over Duquesne University in dual meet action at Davidson College in Davidson, N.C. on Thursday night, as the Bulldogs took six out of the 10 bouts in the match.
The Bulldogs started things off on the right track, as redshirt-freshman Ryan Medved picked up a 5-1 win over Josh Pascazi of Duquesne at 149, giving Gardner-Webb an early 3-0 lead.
Alex Medved continued the winning ways for the Bulldogs, as the redshirt-freshman secured a win with a 17-5 major decision win at 157 over Alex Martinez, pushing the Bulldogs out in front at 7-0.
After the Duquesne Dukes battled back to take a 9-7 lead in the match with three straight wins, GWU's Travis Porter blanked Justin Buchanan 3-0 at 197 to put the Bulldogs back on top at 10-9.
Gardner-Webb redshirt-senior Dustin Porter made it 12 wins in a row only one bout later, as the No. 12 nationally ranked heavyweight by the WIN Division I rankings picked up a pin fall at the 1:10 mark in the first period over the Dukes' Nadeem Farah, pushing the Bulldogs in front by seven at 16-9.
Junior Michael Slaughter followed up Porter's pin fall with a 17-6 major decision win at 125 over Cory Kiser of Duquesne giving the Bulldogs a double digit lead at 20-9 with only two bouts left.
A pin fall win for the Dukes at 133 cut the Bulldog lead to five at 20-15, however, redshirt-freshman Richie Spicel sealed the win for GWU with a 4-2 win over Tony Lascari at 141, giving the Bulldogs the 23-15 match win.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 5-13-1 on the year in dual meet action.
Gardner-Webb will return to the mat tomorrow night, as the Bulldogs will take on Duke in Durham, N.C. at 6:30 p.m.
