GWU Wrestling Falls To Duke, 30-11, on Friday Night

Durham, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team was able to take a lead midway through the match over the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night, yet fell in the last five bouts of the night to fall to the Blue Devils, 30-11, in Durham, N.C.
Duke took an early lead by way of a pin fall at 125, yet GWU's Brett Kostern secured a 9-4 decision win over Nick Adamo of Duke at 133, cutting the Blue Devils lead to three at 6-3.
After Duke picked up a win at 141 and pushed its lead out to six at 9-3, Gardner-Webb got a big 7-2 win at 149 by redshirt-freshman Ryan Medved putting the score at 9-6 in favor of the Blue Devils.
Gardner-Webb took its first lead of the match after the next bout, as redshirt-freshman Alex Medved picked up a 20-5 technical fall win in the third period over Spencer Jasper of Duke, giving an 11-9 lead to the Bulldogs.
GWU's lead did not last long, as Duke won all five of the final five bouts to come away with the 30-11 win.
No. 12 Dustin Porter fell in a back-and-forth match at the heavyweight division, as the redshirt-senior loss 2-1 dropping his first dual match of the season.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 5-15-1 in dual meet action this season.
The Bulldog grapplers will now set its sights on the 2010 NCAA East Regional Championships which will be held in Millersville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, March 6.
