Bulldogs Fall To USC-Upstate, 5-2, Sunday Afternoon in Men's Tennis Action

SPARTANBURG, SC - Gardner-Webb's men's tennis team faced off against USC-Upstate Sunday afternoon, and fell by a 5-2 score at the Upstate Tennis Complex, located on USC-Upstate's campus.
Action began with doubles play, with the Spartans (5-4) taking all three matches to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, Evgeny Slesarev defeated Edgar Rodriguez (6-0, 6-4) in the No. 1 position. This was a big win for the senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, as Rodriguez is ranked #16 in the ITA Carolinas Region. This was Slesarev's eighth consecutive singles win of the 2010 season.
GWU (4-7) took another match in singles play, as freshman Roman Piftor defeated Ignacio Velez (6-2,6-0) in the No. 6 position, yet USC-Upstate earned victories in the other four singles matches to seal the overall victory.
Gardner-Webb returns to action this Wednesday when they host Appalachian State. The match is set to begin at 2:30 PM at the Webb Tennis Complex.
