
Lady Bulldogs Run Past Charlotte, 5-2, Tuesday Afternoon in Women's Tennis Action

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team won five of the six singles matches Tuesday afternoon to defeat Charlotte by a 5-2 score at the Phillips Tennis Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs (7-4) suffered two disappointing losses at the No. 1 and No. 3 position in doubles play to give the point to the 49ers (3-9). The team of Rita Gouveia and Ioana Oprea defeated the team of Gabi Vergara and Anna Ekelund (8-6) at the No. 2 position to give the Lady Bulldogs its lone victory in doubles play.
Gardner-Webb fought back in singles play, taking five of the six matches to seal the overall victory. At the No. 2 position, Oprea defeated Kimber Redfern (6-2, 6-1), Gouveia defeated Vergara (6-4, 6-4) at the No. 3 spot, and Kasey Ellis earned a victory over Candace Cunningham (6-2, 5-7, 6-1) at the No. 4 position.
At the No. 5 position, Ronia Hutterli earned a hard fought victory over Iveta Guneva (6-4, 4-6, 6-3). The freshman from Duebendorf, Switzerland has currently won four consecutive matches, and has an overall singles record of 8-2 for the 2010 season.
Tavenner Black picked up the win at the No. 6 position, defeating Ekelund (7-5, 6-4) to give the Lady Bulldogs another singles victory.
The team will have one day of rest before travelling to Greensboro, NC to take on UNC-Greensboro Thursday afternoon at 2:00 PM.
