Bulldog Grapplers Set to Compete at 2010 NCAA East Regionals This Saturday, March 6th

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb wrestling team will return to the mat this Saturday, March 6, as the Bulldogs will head to Millersville, Pa. to compete in the 2010 NCAA East Regionals.
Gardner-Webb (5-14-1) has sent at least one individual to the NCAA National Championships since 2002-03 and will look to continue that streak this Saturday.
GWU heavyweight Dustin Porter will look to make history on Saturday, March 6, as he will look to make it four years in a row in which he represented the East Region heavyweights at the 2010 NCAA National Championships. The three time East Regional Champion is looking to be the first ever four-year regional champion in GWU history.
The Bulldogs have faired well this season against the NCAA East Regional field, as GWU is 3-1 on the year. The Bulldogs have two wins over Campbell and one win over Duquesne, while its one loss came to Liberty at the East Regional Duals back on February 6. Gardner-Webb has not faced off with Millersville yet this season.
Last time out, Gardner-Webb got off to a great start against the
Duquesne Dukes at Davidson, N.C., as the Medved brothers picked up
back-to-back wins to start the match. GWU then put a string of
wins together with Travis Porter, Dustin Porter and Michael
Slaughter to help put GWU on top with only two bouts left. Richie
Spicel finished off the Dukes, picking up a 4-2 win in the final
match to secure the win for GWU.
Against Duke, only three Bulldogs scored wins, as freshman Brett
Kostern and Ryan Medved each had decisions, while Alex Medved
picked up a tech fall win at 157. Yet it wasn't enough as the
Bulldogs fell to the Blue Devils 30-11.
