
Gardner-Webb Defeats North Greenville and Pfeiffer in Men's Tennis Doubleheader Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, NC - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team swept through Saturday afternoon's doubleheader, defeating North Greenville by a 7-0 score, and then defeating Pfeiffer by a score of 6-1.
The first match of the day was against North Greenville, where the Bulldogs swept the doubles matches to kick off the match. Adam Knutsson-Sundblad and Matthew Herrock team together for the first time this season, defeating the team of Thomas Clack and Guilherme Ferreira (8-4) at the No. 3 position.
The Bulldogs were just as dominant against the Crusaders in singles play, not dropping a single set to win all six singles matches. Andrew Veeder played his first match of the season in the No. 1 position, earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Timur Kamilov, and Roman Piftor for the first time this season at the No. 2 position, defeating Luis Campos by a 6-0, 7-5 score.
Against Pfeiffer, the Bulldogs once again swept doubles play to earn the doubles point. The team of Matthew Parker and Roman Piftor earned their first doubles victory of the season, defeating the team of Ryan Kerr and Michael Worthington (8-2) at the No. 3 position.
In singles play, the Bulldogs took five of the six matches from the Falcons to earn the overall victory. At the No. 1 position, Evgeny Slesarev defeated Philip Lawson (6-1, 7-6 (3)) to win his eleventh consecutive singles match of the season.
Gardner-Webb will quickly turn around to face Virginia, the ITA top ranked team in the country, Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM.
