Lady Bulldogs Fall To UNC Asheville, 6-1, in Women's Tennis Action Wednesday Afternoon

ASHEVILLE, NC - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team traveled to Asheville Wednesday afternoon to take on Big South Conference foe UNC Asheville. Several of the singles matches went to the wire, as well as all of the doubles matches, yet the Lady Bulldogs fell to UNCA by a 6-1 score at the Crowne Plaza Tennis Center.
In doubles action, UNCA (9-5, 2-2 BSC), took two of the three matches to earn the doubles point, with two of the three matches being decided at 8-6.
At the No. 2 position in singles play, Ioana Oprea earned the lone point for Gardner-Webb, defeating Stephanie Schon by a 6-2, 7-6 score.
The Lady Bulldogs (9-6, 0-3 BSE) dropped two matches that went into third set tiebreakers that could have went either way. At the No. 1 position, Erica White fell to Leslie Smith (7-5, 6-7, 14-12) and Kasey Ellis fell to Britney Cloer (6-7, 6-3, 10-4) at the No. 4 position.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action this Saturday afternoon as they travel to Farmville, VA to take on Longwood. The match is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
