Gardner-Webb Edges Past Longwood, 4-3, in Men's Tennis Action Saturday Afternoon

FARMVILLE, VA - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team took a 4-3 decision over Longwood Saturday afternoon, after winning four singles matches.
Action began with doubles play, where the team of Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer defeated Marc Ferrigno and Billty Heird (8-1) at the No. 1 position, yet the Bulldogs dropped the two remaining matches to give the Lancers the doubles point.
Gardner-Webb fought back in singles play, earning victories at the Nos. 1-4 positions to claim the overall victory. Evgeny Slesarev extended his season singles win streak to fourteen consecutive matches, defeating Nobu Tanaka (6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4)) at the No. 1 position. Andrew Veeder defeate Marc Ferrigno (5-7, 6-2, 6-4) at the No. 2 position, Rafael Altmayer defeated Billy Heird (6-1, 6-3) at the No. 3 position, and Roman Piftor defeated Bruno Orlandini (6-2, 6-3) at the No. 4 position.
The Bulldogs quickly turn around to take on Big South Conference foe Liberty Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM in Lynchburg, Va.
