Lady Bulldogs Take 4-3 Decision Over Longwood Saturday Afternoon

FARMVILLE, VA - The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team topped Longwood Saturday afternoon at Lancer Courts in Farmville, Va. by a 4-3 score off of four singles victories.
Action kicked off with doubles play, where the Lancers took all three matches to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, the Lady Bulldogs earned victories at the first two positions to take an early advantage. Reigning Big South Freshman of the Week Erica White defeated Zsofia Jakab (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 1 position, and Ioana Oprea defeated Laura Simon (7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-3) at the No. 2 position in a marathon match that took just over three hours to complete.
Gardner-Webb picked up victories at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions to seal the overall victory. Kasey Ellis defeated Mason Davis (7-6 (2), 0-6, 6-2) at the No. 4 position and Tavenner Black defeated Hannah Hill (6-3, 6-3) at the No. 6 position.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Sunday afternoon as they battle fellow Big South Conference member Liberty. The match is set to take place at 1:30 PM in Lynchburg, Va.
