
Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Slesarev Named Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC - Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Slesarev has been named Big South Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches played the week of March 22-28, as announced by the Conference office.
Slesarev, a senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, went 2-0 in both singles and doubles play from the No. 1 position last week to lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to 4-3 wins over both Charlotte and Longwood. Against Charlotte on March 24, he teamed with senior Rafael Altmayer to defeat the team of Moritz Bernhoerster and Jesse Hutchinson, 8-6, and reeled off a straight-set victory over Berhoerster in singles action, 6-3, 6-2. At Longwood on March 27, Slesarev partnered with Altmayer again to down the team of Marc Ferrigno and Billy Heird, 8-1. He would later defeat Nobu Tananka in singles play, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4), to give Gardner-Webb the deciding point in the 4-3 victory. With the two singles wins, Slesarev extended his singles win streak to 14 consecutive matches.
This marks the second time that Slesarev has received this honor this season.
Gardner-Webb returns to action Wednesday afternoon as they host Big South foe Winthrop at 2:30 PM.
