Lady Bulldogs Down Wofford, 5-2, in Women's Tennis Action Thursday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, NC - In the team's last match before beginning Big South conference play, the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team defeated Wofford by a 5-2 score Thursday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
The match began with doubles play, and the Lady Bulldogs (5-2) were victorious in all three matches to earn the doubles point.
In singles play, the Lady Bulldogs were victorious in four of the six matches to seal the overall victory. In the No. 1 position, Erica White extended her win streak to seven matches, defeating Sabrina Smyers (6-1, 6-2). The freshman from Charleston, W.V. has yet to lose a singles match in her collegiate career.
Rita Gouveia was victorious in the No. 3 position, defeating Lindsay Larkin (6-2, 6-1). In the No. 4 position, Kasey Ellis earned a victory over Bethany Dyer (6-0, 6-2), and Tavenner Black defeated Lucy Schermerhorn (6-4, 6-4) in the No. 6 position.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Saturday afternoon as they host Big South Conference foe Charleston Southern, in what will be the team's first conference match of the 2010 season. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM at the Webb Tennis Complex.
