Lady Bulldogs Drop Conference Opener to Charleston Southern, 5-2, Saturday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, NC - The Gardner-Web women's tennis team opened up Big South Conference play Saturday afternoon, hosting Charleston Southern, but the Buccaneers left Boiling Springs with a win, defeating the Lady Bulldogs by a 5-2 score.
Charleston Southern (5-0, 1-0 BSC) took all three doubles matches to earn the doubles point.
The Lady Bulldogs (5-3, 0-1 BSC) dropped four of the six singles matches, with the wins coming at the No. 2 position when Ioana Oprea defeated Marija Dzakovic (6-2, 6-3) and Ronia Hutterli defeating Susita Das (4-2) in the No. 5 position.
In the No. 1 position, Erica White played a tough match with Olga Makhova, yet Makhova was able to get the best of White (6-2, 7-5). This was the first loss of White's collegiate career in singles play.
The Lady Bulldogs will return to action Thursday afternoon as they host Western Carolina. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 PM at the Webb Tennis Complex.
