Lady Bulldogs Complete Sweep of Coastal Carolina with a 6-0 Win on Sunday Afternoon

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb University completed the three-game weekend series sweep of Coastal Carolina on Sunday afternoon, as the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Chanticleers 6-0 in the series finale.
The win is the Lady Bulldogs fourth in a row and bumps them to 15-23 overall and 5-4 in the Big South, while Coastal Carolina falls to 19-21 overall and 1-4 in conference play with the loss.
Like in the double header on Saturday afternoon, it was the duo of Christa Fullwood and Cindy Boomhower that led the Lady Bulldogs to victory.
Gardner-Webb got on the board first in the third inning, as the Lady Bulldogs pushed across five runs, highlighted by a three-run home run to right center field by Fullwood, putting GWU up 5-0.
The Lady Bulldogs added a run in the bottom of the fourth on a McKenzie Morenus sacrifice fly which scored freshman Jordyn Arrowood from third and increased GWU's lead to six at 6-0.
That was more than enough for hurler Cindy Boomhower (5-9), as the junior picked up her second straight complete game shutout win, allowing only two hits, while striking out four Coastal Carolina hitters along the way.
On the weekend, Boomhower was 2-0 with one save, allowing only seven hits, while striking out 14 hitters in 15 innings of shutout action.
Coastal Carolina's Ashley Frederick (10-13) picked up the loss, as the righty gave up four runs, three earned, on five hits over two innings of work.
At the plate for GWU, senior Mandy Ward was 2-3 with a run scored, while Arrowood was 2-3 with two runs scored. Fullwood was 1-2 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored, while Morenus was 1-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
For Coastal Carolina offensively, Ashley Pizone and Stacy Snellings were both 1-3 with each hit a single.
Gardner-Webb will look to continue to add to its winning streak this week, as the Lady Bulldogs will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on the Winthrop Lady Eagles on Tuesday, April 13. The Big South Conference double header is slated for a 5 p.m. start time.
