
GWU Women's Golf Tied for Fourth-Place After Day One of 2010 Big South Women's Golf Championship

Ninety-Six, S.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team, which fielded a team of five freshmen, was led by Lauren Smith, Chelcia Petersen and Brianna Clemmons, as the Lady Bulldogs carded a team score of 310, +22, after round one of the 2010 Big South Women's Golf Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting and hosted by Radford at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
Gardner-Webb sits in a tie for fourth-place with Bucknell
University after the first round action on what was a sunny day of
play.
GWU's Smith carded a first round 77, +5, as the freshman birdied
holes No. 1 and 18 on the day, while Clemmons also birdied No. 1
and 18 to shoot a 77, +5, as well on Monday.
Like both Smith and Clemmons, Petersen turned in a 77, +5, for
round one, as she birdied No. 4 and 18 on day one, and along with
Smith and Clemmons is tied for 11th-place overall.
Fellow freshmen Hannah Hellyer carded a first round 79, +7,
shooting birdies on holes No. 1 and 8, to place her in a tie for
19th-place, while Meghan Allum turned in a round of 80, +8, to find
herself in a tie for 23rd-place heading into play on Tuesday
morning.
Gardner-Webb is 16 strokes behind the leader Charleston Southern,
who is in first-place with a round one combined team score of 294,
+6. Coastal Carolina is in second-place with a team score of 303,
+15, while Radford sits in third-place overall with a team score of
304, +16, on Monday.
