
GWU Women's Golf Drops Two Spots To Sixth After Day Two at the Big South Women's Golf Championships

Ninety-Six, S.C. - Gardner-Webb women's golf team carded a second round 314, +26, to fall two spots to sixth overall heading into the final round of play on Wednesday, April 14, at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety-Six, S.C.
Gardner-Webb followed up Monday's round of 310 with a second round
314, +26, on Tuesday, to place them in sixth-place overall with a
combined team score of 624, +48.
The Lady Bulldogs, who entered Tuesday's second round in a tie with
Bucknell at fourth-place, was passed by both Bucknell and Winthrop,
which carded team scores of 303 and 295, respectively, on
Tuesday.
Freshman Meghan Allum, who eagled the par 5, 465-yard No. 18 hole
to finish the back nine at -2, carded a second round 73, +1, to
lead GWU and sit all alone in 12th-place overall with a two-round
combined score of 153, +9, heading into the final round on
Wednesday.
Fellow newcomer Brianna Clemmons, who shot a 77 on Monday, put
together a round of 78, +6, on Tuesday to put her in a tie for
16th-place with a two-day score of 155, +11, while freshman Lauren
Smith carded a second round 79, +7, to give her a combined score of
156, +12, and place her in a tie for 20th overall.
Gardner-Webb freshman Chelcia Petersen shot a second round 84, +12,
to put her in a tie for 30th-place overall with a two-day score of
161, +17, while fellow Lady Bulldog Hannah Hellyer turned in a
round of 86, +14, on Tuesday, giving her a combined score of 165,
+21, to sit in a tie for 36th overall.
Charleston Southern still leads the tournament after two rounds, as
the Buccaneers have posted a combined score of 590, +14, a whole 14
strokes ahead of the second-place team Coastal Carolina who has a
team score of 604, +28.
The biggest jump came from Winthrop, as the Lady Eagles shot a team
low 295, +7, on Tuesday, to leap from sixth-place to third-place
overall, surpassing Radford, Bucknell and Gardner-Webb in the
process.
The third and final round of the 2010 Big South Women's Golf
Championship presented by Musco Lighting will tee-off tomorrow
morning, Wednesday, April 14, at 8 a.m. at the Patriot Golf Club in
Ninety-Six, S.C.
