Gardner-Webb Falls to Liberty, 4-3, In Men's Tennis Action Sunday Afternoon

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team completed the 2010 regular season Sunday afternoon, losing a close match to Big South opponent Liberty University, 4-3, at the LU Tennis Courts in Lynchburg, Va.
Action began with doubles play, where the Bulldogs took the early advantage by earning the doubles point, with Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer defeating the team of Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt (8-5) at the No. 1 position, and Andrew Veeder and Jeremie Tardif defeating Juan Reyes and Louis Steyn (8-3) at the No. 2 position.
In singles play, Slesarev defeated Tuus (6-2, 6-2) at the No. 1 position. In singles play, the senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia improved his record to 18-3 overall, and 5-1 in Big South play for the season.
The Bulldogs got another victory at the No. 6 position, as Adam Knutsson-Sundblad defeated Reyes (0-6, 6-2, 6-2), yet the Flames (12-9, 4-2 BSC) won the remaining four singles matches to claim the overall match victory
Gardner-Webb finishes the regular season with an 11-13 overall record, and 2-4 in Big South play. The Bulldogs will now prepare for the Big South Tournament, which takes place April 22nd-24th at Radford University in Radford, Va.
