
Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Slesarev Named Big South Men's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC - Gardner-Webb's Evgeny Slesarev has been named Big South Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of April 12-18, the final week of the week of the regular season, as announced today by the Big South Conference office.
Slesarev, a senior from Krasnoyarsk, Russia, went 2-0 in singles and doubles play last week from the No. 1 spot. In singles, he defeated UNC Asheville's Nicolai Nonnenbroich, 7-6, 6-0, and Liberty's Siim Tuus, 6-2, 6-2 to finish the Conference season with a 5-1 record. In doubles play, he teamed with senior Rafael Altmayer to defeat UNC Asheville's Jonas Brobeck and Matt Waissen, 8-2, and Liberty's Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt, 8-5.
This marks the third time this season that Slesarev has received this honor.
Gardner-Webb kicks off the 2010 Big South Men's Tennis Championship Thursday afternoon, as the #5 seeded Bulldogs take on #4 Liberty in the day's opening match. The match is set to begin at 10:00 AM in Radford, Va.
