
Erica White Named Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Year

CHARLOTTE, NC - Gardner-Webb freshman Erica White was named Big South Conference Co-Freshman of the Year, along with Winthrop's Yasmine Alkema, as announced Wednesday evening at an award ceremony held on the campus of Radford University prior to the beginning of the 2010 Big South Women's Tennis Championship on Thursday.
White, a No. 1 player from Charleston, W. Va., finished the year with an 18-5 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the Big South Conference. She was named Big South Freshman of the Week three times on the year and highlighted her Conference season with a big win over Alkema of Winthrop, who she split the award with.
Sophomore Tavenner Black was also honored by the Conference, as she was named to the All-Academic team.

The 2010 Big South Women's Tennis Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting begins Thursday morning at the Dedmon Center Courts at Radford University. The No. 6 seeded Lady Bulldogs will face No. 3 Coastal Carolina in the first round at 3:00 PM. The tournament will last through Saturday, with the champion receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
