Bulldogs Fall to Radford, 4-0, In Semifinals of 2010 Big South Men's Tennis Championships

RADFORD, VA - The Gardner-Webb men's tennis team's 2010 season came to an end Friday afternoon as the #5 Bulldogs fell to #1 Radford in the semifinals of the 2010 Big South Men's Tennis Championships by a 4-0 score.
The match kicked off with doubles play, with Radford (12-10) getting an early advantage with the team of Erik Finkenbrink and Igor Ogrizek defeating Adam Knutsson-Sundblad and Roman Piftor (8-3) at the No. 3 position, yet Gardner-Webb (12-14) won the match at the No. 2 position when Andrew Veeder and Jeremie Tardif defeated the team of Zack Watson and Paul Boslet (9-8). The match at the No. 1 position decided the doubles point, with Ivan Salec and Thomas Dehaen defeating Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer (9-8) to give Radford the point.
In singles action, Zack Watson defeated Jeremie Tardif (6-0, 6-0) at the No. 5 position, Thomas Dehaen defeated Andrew Veeder (6-1, 6-1) at the No. 2 position, and Igor Ogrizek defeated Rafael Altmayer (6-0, 6-2) to give the Highlanders the overall victory.
Matches at the No. 1, No. 4, and No. 6 positions were not completed, as the overall match was already decided.
Radford advances to the championship match of the 2010 Big South Men's Tennis Championships for the fifth straight season. The match will take at 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon, with the Highlanders facing the winner of #2 Winthrop/#3 Coastal Carolina for an automatic bid to the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship.
