
GWU Women's Golf Takes 10th at Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate

Morganton, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's golf team competed in the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina University held at the par 72, 5,869-yard Mimosa Hills Country Club golf course in Morganton, N.C.
The Lady Bulldogs finished tenth overall as a team, placing ahead
of Western Kentucky University, USC Upstate, The Citadel, and
conference foes Radford and High Point. The team notched 12 birdies
along with 84 pars in pursuit to their combined score of 637,
+61.
GWU was led by freshman Chelcia Petersen, as she recorded a two-day
score of 153, +9 to tie for 17th-place overall. Petersen led the
Lady Bulldogs with a par 3 scoring average of 2.88, which was
second best for the tournament.
Tied for 33rd overall was Lady Bulldog Lauren Smith, carding a
combined score of 157, +13. Smith posted a 4.15 par 4 scoring
average over the two rounds which was tops among the Lady Bulldog
golfers.
Gardner-Webb's Brianna Clemmons turned in a combined score of 164,
+20, placing her in a tie for 55th-place overall, while fellow
freshman Hannah Hellyer turned in a two-day score of 167, +23
finishing tied for 65th-place overall.
Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Bulldogs was Courtney
Finocchiaro who carded a combined score of 171, +27 and finishing
69th.
Elon University recorded the team win for the second straight year
shooting a combined score of 607, +31, while Sarah Hurt of Wofford
College won the individual title outright, shooting a 141, 3-under
par.
Gardner-Webb will see green time again April 12-14, as they will
compete in the Big South Championship at The Patriot Golf Club in
Ninety-Six, S.C.
