GWU Track and Field Competes at the 25th Annual Jesse Owens Track Classic

Columbus, Ohio - The Gardner-Webb men's and women's outdoor track and field teams had a handful of student-athletes participate at the 25th Annual Jesse Owens Track Classic at the Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of Ohio State University this weekend.
The men's team had six Bulldogs participate in the two-day event with redshirt-sophomore Christoph Hutschalik highlighting the event with a 15th-place finish in the men's hammer throw event with a throw of 57.86 meters (189'10").
In the men's 110 meter hurdles, Johnathon Rucker placed 20th with a finals time of 14.94, while junior Evan Brusich finished in 34th with his time of 15.42. Brusich also finished in 37th-place overall in the men's long jump event with a leap of 5.97 meters (19'7").
In the men's 800 meter run, Josiah Stanton-Brooks picked up a 24th-place finish with his time of 1:53.36, while freshman Bo Miller just missed surpassing his personal best time in the 100 meter dash, as he crossed the finish line with a time of 10.87 to place 35th overall.
The women's team had seven Lady Bulldogs participate over the weekend with Caroline Arledge's 12th-place showing in the women's javelin throw with her distance of 36.17 meters (118'08) leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs.
In the women's pole vault event, freshman Taylor Cook placed in a tie at 27th-place overall with her height of 3.25 meters (10'8"), while fellow newcomer Ivana Hughes also picked up a 27th-place finish, finishing with a time of 58.09 in the women's 400 meter dash event.
GWU junior Laura Scott turned in a time of 18:56.71 in the women's 5000 meter run, placing her in 29th overall, while freshman Ariel Zimmerman crossed the finish line with a time of 4:50.04 in the women's 1500 meter run, good enough to place her in 41st-place overall.
Gardner-Webb will return to action next weekend, as the men's and women's track and field teams will take part in the Orange and Purple Classic hosted by Clemson University in Clemson, S.C. on Saturday, May 8.
