Women's Soccer Set to Take on East Tennessee State in 2010 Home Opener Friday

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - After earning a 2-0 win at Jacksonville State last week, the Gardner-Webb women's soccer team is set to host East Tennessee State in its first match at Greene-Harbison Field for the 2010 season this Friday evening.
The Runnin' Bulldogs kicked off the 2010 campaign this past Friday at Jacksonville State and took the victory by a 2-0 score. Junior forward Megan Reimer scored both goals for the team within the first eight minutes of the match, earning Big South Conference Women's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week honors for the first week of the season.
East Tennessee State enters Friday's match with a 1-0 record after a 4-1 victory over UNC Asheville this past Sunday. Senior forward Rachel Van Horn scored twice to lead the Buccaneers to the victory.
Friday's match between Gardner-Webb and East Tennessee State marks the fifth all-time meeting between the two programs. The two teams last met in the 2007 season with the Buccaneers taking the 2-0 win. Friday night's match is set to begin at 7:00 P.M. at Greene-Harbison Field.
Tuesday evening, the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on USC Upstate. The Spartans enter the week with a 0-2 record following losses to Charleston Southern and Furman, and will take on Georgia Southern this Saturday afternoon. A familiar face is on the USC Upstate coaching staff, as former Gardner-Webb graduate assistant coach Lindsey Boldt is in her first season as an assistant coach for the Spartans. Boldt was on the Runnin' Bulldog coaching staff during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.
Tuesday's match between the Runnin' Bulldogs and the Spartans will be the fifth time the two teams have faced each other all-time. Gardner-Webb has been victorious in each of the four previous meetings between the two programs, with the most recent meeting taking place last season in Spartanburg, where GWU took the 3-1 victory. Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM at the County University Soccer Stadium.
