Runnin' Bulldogs and Buccaneers Battle To Scoreless Tie Friday Evening
August 28, 2010 | Women's Soccer
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - East Tennessee State put eight shots on goal, and Gardner-Webb's Megan Reimer had the best scoring opportunity of the match late in the second half, yet neither team was able to produce any offense as Friday's match between ETSU and GWU ended in a scoreless tie.
The first half was dominated by the Buccaneers (1-0-1), who took 13 shots, with six being on goal. Terri Miller, Rachel Van Horn, and Ramey Kerns each put two shots on goal in the half, but were unable to find the back of the net.
The second half was much more balanced, with the Runnin' Bulldogs (1-0-1) having the best scoring opportunity of either team in the 83rd minute when junior forward Megan Reimer sent a shot toward the upper left corner of the goal, yet ETSU goalkeeper Megan Masch was just able to prevent the ball from finding the back of the net, diving to earn her lone save of the match.
Both teams played tenacious defense during the two overtime periods, as neither of the teams were able to put a shot on goal.
Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne had another outstanding game in goal, preventing the ETSU offense from scoring, tallying six saves throughout the match.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action Tuesday evening as they travel to USC Upstate. The match is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM at County University Soccer Stadium.
