Men's Soccer Surrenders Two Second Half Goals in 3-1 Loss To Lipscomb

Nashville, Tenn. - Gardner-Webb surrendered two second half goals to fall to Lipscomb 3-1 in the first game of the Belmont Invitational tournament in Nashville, Tennessee on Friday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb fell behind early, as in the 23rd minute Lipscomb's Miguel DaSilva received a pass behind the GWU defense where he beat GWU's keeper Adam Garcia one-on-one for the score, putting the Bison up 1-0.
The goal was DaSilva's first on the year, while Garret Pettis picked up the assist.
The Runnin' Bulldogs knotted the score up in the 30th minute, as sophomore defender Jordan Day made an excellent throw in from the sidelines which found the head of Jon Ole Reinhardsen who put the ball pass the goal line and into the net. Reinhardsen's game tying goal was his first on the young season, while Day recorded his second assist.
However, with the scored tied up at 1-1 heading into the second half of play, it was the Bison who made the best of its scoring opportunities scoring twice on only six shots to come away with the win.
Lipscomb's Andrew Chamberlain scored in the 66th minute, which proved to be the game-winning goal, while Pettis scored the insurance goal for the Bison in the 76th minute, receiving the ball in the box on a pass from fellow teammate Joey Chiapetta.
Gardner-Webb outshot the Bison 16-13 for the match, including putting seven shots on frame compared to Lipscomb's six.
However, Lipscomb's goalkeeper Brent McGee was solid between the posts on Friday night, picking up six saves over the 90 minutes of play.
The Runnin' Bulldogs (1-2) will remain in Nashville, Tennessee for its next contest, as GWU will take on the host of the Belmont Invitational tournament the Belmont Bruins at 2:35 p.m. central time on Sunday, September 12th.
