
GWU Men's Soccer Falls To Belmont 2-1 on Sunday Afternoon

Nashville, Tenn. - The Gardner-Webb men's soccer team got on the board first on Sunday afternoon, however, the Bruins of Belmont scored the next two goals to defeat the Runnin' Bulldogs 2-1 at the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tenn.
Gardner-Webb got on the board in the 28th minute when freshman Chris Davis chased down a long punt by goalkeeper Adam Garcia. Davis then beat the Bruins' goalkeeper Juho Illi for his first career goal and put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front at 1-0.
Only three minutes later, in the 31st minute, Belmont's Brandon Tarr scored his first of two goals on a header off a cross from Nico Olsak to tie the score up at 1-1.
Belmont's Tarr scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 65th minute, as this time he put a header past GWU's Garcia off a rebounded shot off the cross bar to put the home team up 2-1.
Gardner-Webb out shot the Bruins 21-14 for the match, putting six of those 21 shots on frame compared to Belmont's five.
Sophomore John Sargent tallied three shots for the match, putting two on frame, while Jon Ole Reinhardsen, Romeo Kabanda, Nicolas Wrobel and Davis each had a shot on goal as well.
GWU's Garcia falls to 1-3-0 on the season with the loss, while Belmont's Illi picked up his second win on the year, recording five saves over the 90 minutes of play.
GWU's Kabanda and Reinhardsen were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Gardner-Webb (1-3) will return home for its next two matches, as the Runnin' Bulldogs host USC Upstate at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15. GWU will host Davidson on Saturday, September 18, at 5 p.m. at Greene-Harbison Field.
