
Zimmerman and McClay Lead GWU Cross Country Teams at 2010 UNC Invitational

Chapel Hill, N.C. - Gardner-Webb sophomore Ariel Zimmerman and freshman Mike McClay led their respective Runnin' Bulldog cross country teams on Friday night at the 2010 UNC Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.
For the second straight race, Zimmerman led the GWU women's team, as the sophomore picked up a 10th-place finish in the 5k run with her time of 19:39.85.
Redshirt-sophomore Elisabeth Sawyer crossed the finish line in 11th-place overall with a time of 20:04.91, while senior Lia Hudak (21:54.58) and redshirt-freshman Ivana Hughes (21:54.77) finished back-to-back in 20th and 21st-place overall.
Rounding out the GWU runners was senior Diana Palka with a 23rd-place finish with her time of 22:11.30, while junior Cherish Richardson turned in a time of 22:36.04 to place 26th overall.
On the men's side, like Zimmerman on the women's side, McClay paced the Runnin' Bulldogs men's team for the second straight event, turning in a time of 21:52.59 in the 5k run, placing him in 16th-place overall.
Fellow newcomer Trey Crook crossed the finish line in 28th with a time of 23:42.30, just ahead of senior Justin Cole who finished in 29th-place with a final time of 23:49.78.
A pack of Runnin' Bulldogs crossed the finish line together headed by freshman Justin Loy (24:08.57) in 31st-place. Right behind Loy was fellow freshman Jarrett Willis (24:34.54) in 32nd-place, redshirt-junior Patrick Williams (24:38.53) in 33rd and junior Jacob Hoyle (24:46.79) in 34th-place.
In 37th-place with a time of 25:14.70 was freshman Drew Ford, while senior Paul Steinke crossed the finish line in 40th-place with his time of 28:05.15.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday morning, as GWU will compete in the 2010 Big South Conference Preview Meet hosted by Radford University in Blacksburg, Va. on September 25th.
