BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - The Gardner-Webb women's soccer team is set to take on George Washington in the lone match of the week for the Runnin' Bulldogs Friday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb enters the week with an overall record of 3-4-2 following a double overtime scoreless tie at Appalachian State and a 2-1 loss to Georgia State over the weekend. Friday evening at Appalachian State, neither team was able to find the back of the net after 110 minutes of play, resulting in a 0-0 tie. Junior goalkeeper Chelsea Hearne was effective for the Runnin' Bulldogs, earning ten saves to prevent the Mountaineers from scoring. Sunday afternoon, GWU hosted Georgia State and fell by a score of 2-1. Junior forward Megan Reimer scored her third goal of the season late in the second half, yet the Runnin' Bulldogs were unable to score the tying goal later.
George Washington enters Friday's match with an overall record of 5-3-0 after earning a 2-1 win over Delaware this past Sunday afternoon. The Colonials, picked to finish ninth in the Atlantic-10 Conference standings this season, are currently led offensively by freshman forward Claire Haft and sophomore forward Adriana Moya, who each have two goals for the season.
In 2009, the Colonials finished with an overall record of 7-8-4 and seventh place in A-10 play, just missing postseason play.
