SCHEDULE
The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to snap a three-match losing streak,
as GWU will travel to Asheville, N.C. to face off with the UNCA
Bulldogs at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29th.
MATCH NOTES
GWU is in the midst of a three-match losing streak and will look to
snap it this week against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb
is 2-6 on the season and dropped its Big South Conference opener
last Saturday night at High Point.
UNCA is 2-5 on the season and will enter the match on Wednesday
afternoon having dropped its last four contests. UNCA is 1-0 at
home thus far this season, having defeated Brevard College 3-0 on
September 8. This will be the conference opener for the
Bulldogs.
COMMON FOES IN 2010
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-2 versus teams this season that have
also faced off with UNCA. UNCA is 0-3 versus these opponents,
having loss to USC Upstate, Belmont and Lipscomb. GWU's lone win
came over USC Upstate.
OVERALL SERIES HISTORY VS UNCA
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 5-7-1 all-time versus the UNCA Bulldogs on
the pitch in men's soccer action. In last year's match up, GWU
defeated 2-1 in Boiling Springs, N.C. These two teams first met
back in 1988, as UNCA defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 9-1.
SLOW START IN CONFERENCE PLAY
Gardner-Webb dropped its conference opener last week, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs fell at High Point 4-0 on Saturday night. GWU
will look to pick up its first conference win this week, as the
Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Asheville, N.C. to take on the UNCA
Bulldogs on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
ROAD WOES
The Runnin' Bulldogs have struggled on the road thus far this
season, as GWU 0-3 in true road contests this season. GWU fell at
Belmont 2-1 on September 12th, dropped a 3-1 match at Boone, N.C.
against Appalachian State on September 21st and then fell at High
Point 4-0 on Saturday, September 25th.
NO OVERTIME PLEASE
The Runnin' Bulldogs have played two overtime matches thus far this
season, falling in both matches 1-0. In fact, GWU's opponents each
scored in the opening two minutes of the extra frame to defeat the
Runnin' Bulldogs.
A-SUN SPLIT
GWU, the 2006 Atlantic Sun Men's Soccer Tournament Champions, have
posted a 2-2 against the A-Sun this year having picked up wins at
home over Mercer and USC Upstate. The Runnin' Bulldogs two losses
versus its former conference foes came against Lipscomb and at
Belmont this season.
GWU DROPS TWO L'S IN THE MUSIC CITY
The GWU men's soccer team went 0-2 in the Music City on September
10-12, falling to Lipscomb 3-1 on Friday night and Belmont 2-1 on
Sunday afternoon. Despite, outshooting both the Bison and the
Bruins, GWU was outscored 5-2 over the tournament weekend.
ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM PLEASE
The GWU men's soccer team had two players named to the Mafiaoza's
Invitational All-Tournament Team in Jon Ole Reinhardsen and Romeo
Kabanda.
THE BIG SOUTH NETWORK
Gardner-Webb, as of now, will have a total of nine regular season
matches and the 2010 Big South Conference Championships streamed on
the Big South Network. The matches that will be streamed via the
Big South Network can be found at www.GWUsports.com or at
www.bigsouthsports.com.
LOOKING AHEAD
Gardner-Webb will remain on the road for its next two contests, as
the Runnin' Bulldogs will step out of conference play to face off
with Clemson on Tuesday, October 5, at 7 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
Coach Setzer's squad will then jump back into Big South play on
Saturday, October 9, to host the VMI Keydets for a 7 p.m. kick off
in Greene-Harbison Stadium.
