Three Runnin' Bulldogs Score in GWU's 3-0 Win over UNCA

Asheville, N.C. - Gardner-Webb had three different players score one goal apiece on Tuesday afternoon, as the Runnin' Bulldogs snapped its three-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over UNCA at Greenwood Field in Asheville, N.C.
The win was the Runnin' Bulldogs first Big South Conference win of the season and was GWU's first road match victory on the year.
The Runnin' Bulldogs got on the board first in the sixth minute, as senior Romeo Kabanda put a shot past UNCA goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen to put the visitors up 1-0 early.
After a UNCA shot in the ninth minute and a GWU shot in the 18th minute, Kabanda returned the favor to freshman Nicolas Wrobel, who assisted on the first Gardner-Webb goal, as the senior found Wrobel who fired a shot from seven yards out and found the back of the net to put the Runnin' Bulldogs in front by 2-0 less than 19 minutes into the match.
GWU continued to control the ball and put the offensive pressure on the UNCA Bulldogs, outshooting UNCA 7-3 for the remainder of the opening half before taking a 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
Gardner-Webb refused to take its foot off the offensive gas pedal, as sophomore John Sargent put the Runnin' Bulldogs up 3-0 in the early minutes of the second half, scoring off a well played cross from senior Guy Mbanyamsig in the 57th minute.
The three goals would prove to be more than enough, as the GWU defense and goalkeeper Adam Garcia held the UNCA Bulldogs off the board for the remainder match, sealing the 3-0 shutout victory for the Runnin' Bulldogs.
GWU outshot UNCA 19-7 for the match, with the Runnin' Bulldogs putting 11 shots on frame compared to the Bulldogs two.
Garcia picked up his third win of the season, collecting two saves over the 90 minutes of play; UNCA's Hurskainen recorded eight saves in the loss.
Kabanda tallied both his second goal and second assist of the season on Tuesday afternoon, while Wrobel recorded his team leading fourth goal of the season and his first assist on the year. Sargent's goal was his first of the season, while Mbanyamsig picked up his second assist.
Gardner-Webb (3-6, 1-1 Big South) will step out of conference play on Tuesday, October 5, as the Runnin' Bulldogs will travel to Clemson, S.C. to take on the Clemson Tigers at 7 p.m.
UNCA will also step out of conference play for its next match, as the Bulldogs will take on Longwood on Saturday, October 2, at 5 p.m. in Farmville, Va.
